Our Talk Lumber project in KwaZulu-Natal is a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming sawmill byproducts into high-quality biochar for sustainable agriculture. Using advanced pyrolysis technology, this project converts local, sustainable biomass into biochar, which enhances soil health and sequesters carbon. The initiative not only contributes to climate goals by producing valuable carbon credits but also supports the local economy by creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable practices within the forestry sector.
Renu Earth’s biochar production process uses a unique setup of three interconnected pyrolysis kilns, designed for continuous 24/7 operation to maximize efficiency. The system begins with the first kiln, generating syngas that sequentially ignites the following kilns, enabling a fossil-fuel-free process. All heat produced is reintegrated into the pyrolysis cycle, creating a self-sustaining and highly efficient production line that delivers consistent, high-quality biochar, while supporting sustainable carbon sequestration efforts.
